We all are aware that India is the fastest-growing electronic consumer market in the world. Consequently, the amount of electronic waste being generated is also high when the products reach the end of their use. Looking at the ever-growing hazardous and toxic effects of electronic waste on the environment, Government of India has introduced an Extended Producer Responsibility in the E-Waste Management Rules, 2016.This policy sets out guidelines for the producers who have to ensure that the electronic waste generated is recycled when it reaches the end of its use. Failing to do so can attract environmental compensation. The guidelines are laid out to ensure that every stakeholder involved in the massive generation of e-waste takes equal responsibility for recycling it.
